Walking Into Kent Saddlery… and Leaving With an Opportunity

I visited Kent Saddlery in Stanthorpe with one thing in mind — a new pair of fenders for my saddle before heading up north for my second year as a station hand. I had no idea that visit would turn into something more…

While I was there, I met Lyle, who warmly welcomed us and generously showed us around. He took us out the back of the store, where their leather goods are handcrafted. Seeing the workshop first hand gave me a real appreciation for what they do. There’s a level of care, skill, and pride in their work — every piece built with purpose, designed for the realities of life on cattle stations, and shaped by over 30 years of feedback from the people who rely on it every day.

Having ridden in one of their Station Special saddles and used their gear myself, I already knew the quality and reliability they’re known for. But seeing where it all comes together and the people behind it — gave me an even deeper appreciation.

For decades, Kent Saddlery has travelled across Australia, visiting remote stations and building genuine, face-to-face relationships with their customers. That “going the extra mile” mindset isn’t just a saying — it’s something they’ve truly lived out.

Standing there, surrounded by beautifully made products and brands they stock, I felt inspired. I found myself sharing the story of my newly established business — something I’ve poured my own time, care, and creativity into. I showed Lyle my scarves (luckily I had a couple in the car) and left one with him.

From there, Kent Saddlery came on board as a stockist, both in-store and on the road, visiting stations.

What started as a simple purchase turned into an opportunity I never saw coming.

Kent Saddlery isn’t just about product — it’s about people. They value relationships, support Australian-made goods, and genuinely care about the stories behind what they sell.

Sometimes, the best opportunities come when you least expect them.
